CBRE ANNOUNCES ACTION FOR CHILDREN AS ITS NEW UK CHARITY PARTNER

Leading global real estate advisor CBRE has announced a two-year partnership with UK charity, Action for Children after the charity was successfully chosen through the company’s UK staff vote. The new partnership will focus on helping young people entering and leaving the care system, as well as supporting foster families to create successful home environments.

The partnership, which is expected to raise over half a million pounds over the 2-year period, will help around 700 children and young people in care throughout the UK, as well as their foster families.

Evidence has shown that a lack of support when young people leave the care system, aged 18, and move into independent living means they are statistically more likely to become homeless or drop out of education or employment. Research showed that in 2013/14, 41% of care leavers, age 19, were not in education, employment or training, against a national figure of 15%.

“With the money raised through working with CBRE we will provide specialist workers across the UK to help foster children make the move from the safety of care to independent living. Our team will guide and support young people, helping to source accommodation, emotional support, shaping their ambitions and setting goals for potential employment, education and training opportunities.” Said Nick Jones, Managing Director of Fundraising, Communications and Policy at Action for Children.

The charity will also use the funds to develop a digital handbook for foster parents to help prevent placements breaking down and give foster parents the support they need in an easy and accessible manner. This will sit alongside a new digital ‘welcome pack’ for children entering care, ensuring information is always readily available and they can receive support whenever they need it.

Nick Jones, Managing Director of Fundraising, Communications and Policy at Action for Children, said: “This partnership will help transform the lives of many children in care and I want to thank everyone at CBRE for their support. The young people we work with have often experienced traumatic childhoods and because of that, many are growing up within the care system. But a childhood in care can be very challenging”.

Following a very successful 3-year partnership with Shelter, we are delighted to launch a new partnership with Action for Children, a charity partner chosen by our staff. We will continue our Building a Better Future programme in the UK by supporting children in the care system and beyond as well as their foster families. We look forward to kicking off our programme with Action for Children, an inspirational charity which makes a direct and vital contribution to young people across the UK.
