CBRE Ireland Appoints Paul Whelan as Senior Director

New Head of Client Accounting Services Appointed within CBRE’s Expanding Asset Services Division. Dublin, 2nd December 2014 – CBRE has strengthened its Asset Services team with the appointment of Paul Whelan, as Senior Director, Head of Client Accounting Services.

Heading up a young and dynamic team of 10 dedicated client accounts staff, Paul’s role is to oversee the client accounting and financial reporting function of the company’s growing asset services division. Providing a fully out-sourced solution for the day-to-day management and provision of asset value enhancement strategies to achieve the best possible return on clients’ properties, CBRE's Asset Services, with a team of over 35 experienced property managers and surveyors, now manages approximately €100 million of client funds - covering a number of new prestigious commercial property schemes such as Central Park on behalf of Green REIT and The Marshes Shopping Centre, Dundalk on behalf of Kennedy Wilson.

A fellow of the Institute of Charted Accountants, Paul has over 20 years’ experience of leading finance teams within the property management sector, with a strong focus on business performance, commercial excellence and innovation. Paul joins CBRE from his former position of MD at O’Dwyer Property Management, where he held overall responsibility for operations, compliance, finance and all aspects of the firm’s professional service delivery. Paul also has extensive experience working in regulated environments (NPSRA / Central Bank / ISI / NASDAQ / LSE) developing and implementing operational and financial controls. In today’s commercial property environment where clients require up to date, real time financial information & reporting, Paul’s appointment, along with CBRE's world class IT platform encompassing ‘Yardi’ and ‘Core’ Real Time Dashboard reporting will ensure CBRE Asset Services’ continued evolution from a property management led business to a true client focussed property services model.

Known for his client focussed and results driven approach to asset management and client reporting, Paul’s background has, over recent years, seen him assigned to a number of high profile commercial & mixed used schemes, such as Tallaght Cross West (1m sq. ft. retail, offices, 507 apartments & a 186 bedroom hotel); Adamstown (2,000 units); Spencer Dock (616 units); Custom House Square (587 units & 40,000 sq. ft. commercial); Hanover Quay (292 units & 54,000 sq. ft. commercial); Gallery Quay (300 units & 10,000 sq. ft. commercial), plus various fixed charge receivership services and asset disposal programmes for NAMA, AIB, KPMG and West Register. Prior to his role with O’Dwyer Property Management Paul, started his career with accountancy firms Baker Tilly O’Hare and PWC and was Director of Accounting of CEVA Inc., a NASDAQ listed technology company for six years where he led the accounting and controller functions of its European, US and Asian operations. Paul is also a member of the SCSI and RICS and a past Chairman & Director of the Irish Property & Facility Management Association.
