CBRE Strengthens Supermarket Agency Team

Adrian Hanley Joins as Director from Angermann Goddard & Loyd
CBRE, the world’s largest commercial real estate services firm, has appointed Adrian Hanley to further strengthen its Supermarket Agency & Development team.

Adrian joins after seven years at Angermann Goddard & Loyd where he held the position of Associate Director, specialising in the foodstore sector. He joins CBRE as Director and will focus on supermarket agency, development and lease consultancy advice.

The appointment comes in response to CBRE’s growing presence in the supermarket sector and broader strategy to continue to deliver a complete range of retail expertise to clients. The Supermarket Agency & Development team, led by John Witherell, currently provides food store agency and development advice to clients such as Sainsbury’s, LaSalle, Land Securities, LXB and British Land.

According to recent CBRE research, the supermarket development pipeline in Great Britain has grown by a startling 57% since September 2007. The amount of new space in the pipeline at the end of the first half of 2012 increased to 5.34 million square foot. Supermarkets now account for 38% of all shops in the development pipeline, up from 25% four years ago, and 39% of space under construction.

John Witherell, Senior Director, Supermarket Agency & Development, CBRE, said:

“There are not many sectors of the UK property market that are growing rapidly, but foodstores are a notable exception. The main push continues to be for convenience floor space; however, grocers are also developing edge and out-of-centre stores, particularly in towns where new market share can be gained.

“We see huge potential and growth in developing our supermarket business across the UK and Adrian’s arrival to the team will allow us to further strengthen our capabilities to help ensure our clients such as Sainsbury’s receive the best expert advice.”

The appointment forms part of an on-going recruitment drive to further strengthen the UK retail business. In the last 12 months CBRE has bolstered its 200 strong retail team with 27 new appointments including a series of strategic appointments to reinforce core services such as leasing, acquisitions and investment.
